Brokerage Rijeka - Promoting research and innovation for competitiveness

The Brokerage event on the subject "Research and innovation promotion in the function of competitiveness" was held on 20th April 2012 at Science and Technology Park (SteP RI) of the University of Rijeka, which was organized in cooperation of the team of Tempus project WBC-VMnet from University of Rijeka, STeP RI and Enterprise Europe Network-Croatia. That was one-day event, with more than 50 participants from academic and business sectors. Presentations at this event were given by representatives of partner institutions, as well as eminent domestic experts from the areas of research, innovations and business.

Within the introductory speech, the present were greeted by Prof Dr Zdravko Lenac, the Director for EU projects and innovation at University of Rijeka, Antonija Gladović, Agency for mobility and EU programmes, Head of Department for other EU programs and initiatives in science and education, Boris Golob, Manager of the Science and technology park - STeP RI, Prof Dr Vesna Mandic, coordinator of WBC-VMNet project and site manager for that project at University of Rijeka Dr Zoran Jurkovic, who emphasized the significance of promotion and mobilization of research resources in the region with the aim of initiating innovations in domestic enterprises and their greater involvement in the international projects.

Particular attention was given to the presentation of experiences in Development innovation system at University of Rijeka and Ruder Boskovic Institute and Model of the university-enterprise cooperation and his implementation in the Western Balkan Countries and as well as Innovation capacities of the WBC region. In addition were presented useful tools for improving innovation implementation and role of intellectual property on academic and business sectors through examples of best practices of the local companies and academic institutions.
At the end of this event, individual meetings (total of 9 B2B, R2B & R2R) were organized.
Next brokerage event will be held in June 2012 in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
